Helping Partners: The Great Cloth Diaper Change normally teams up with some great nonprofits to offer donations. The Rebecca Foundation Cloth Diaper Closet. They will be collecting gently used cloth diapers to distribute to families in need. And Newborns in Need will be taking donations of any new in package baby related items. The current needs are listed on the website, but any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated. Bohemian Baby, a long time supporter of the event, will also have a pop-up shop at EarthFest.
Great Cloth Diaper Change Mission: The Real Diaper Association is a collective non-profit organization in which parents and small businesses take the lead in creating a cultural shift to increase the use of simple, reusable cloth diapers. We connect current cloth diapering parents to the long history of cloth diapering. Cloth diapers are real diapers. The Association organizes local advocates and activists for cloth diapers through a member-supported resource center which plans campaigns, trains organizers, distributes educational information, supports local groups, and connects users to the Cloth Diaper industry. Local Real Diaper Circles reach users face-to-face with knowledge and tools to make cloth diapering accessible and acceptable to parents, who have the power to change the world one baby at a time.
GCDC History: Judy Aagard’s desire to celebrate Earth Day by hosting a family event for the Tiny Tots community quickly morphed into a dream to set a Guinness World Record for the most cloth diapers changed simultaneously. Shortly thereafter, The Great Cloth Diaper ChangeSM 2011 was conceived and organized by a small group of cloth diaper enthusiasts that were eager to demonstrate that cloth diapers are a real option for today’s families.
Knoxville TN GCDC History: The Great Cloth Diaper Change has been an annual event in Knoxville since its founding date in April 2011. Throughout the years we have grown to new heights but remained true to the original goals of staying grassroots. In 2011, we had 25 qualifying babies changed in a park to set the Guinness book of records world record. In April of 2012 a small group of mothers planned and hosted the first ever Natural Patenting Expo to encourage more participation to break the previous years record which we did with 100 babies changed! 2013 changed slightly to set a brand new record of number of babies changed at the same time local time across the globe. We again hosted the Natural Patenting Expo and set the new record while breaking Knoxville’s personal record and had 105 babies. Due to a conflict in traffic road blocks 2014 went down for Knoxville with 75 babies but we are very excited to try to beat our personal best this year at Earth Fest!
