Youth Area: Crafts, Activities, & Learning Area
The Youth Learning and Activity Area will be an exciting and interactive space for young folks at EarthFest. We will have free crafts and activities all day, so make sure to stop by!
This year, we’re focusing on the five senses: sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. Kids will be invited to explore the senses through crafts and activities including:

  • Drum crafting and a drum circle with Djembe Drums and Skins
  • Leaf rubbing and pine cone bird feeder crafting with the Sierra Club
  • Applesauce tasting with the Walker Sisters
  • Wildlife exploration with Ijams Nature Center
  • Soil investigations with the Center for Urban Agriculture
  • Cup stacking with The Muse
  • And so much more!

Story Thyme in the Secret Garden
Every Child Outdoors Youth Garden is hosting a nature-themed “Story Thyme” for kids of all ages in the Bird’s Nest located in KBGA’s Secret Garden. Each hour will feature a different garden-related theme:
12:30 p.m. – Basic Gardening
1:30 p.m. – Composting
2:30 p.m. – Vegetables, fruits and flowers
3:30 p.m. – Environmental impact
4:30 p.m. – Bugs, insects, spiders and worms

Clean Fuel Vehicle Showcase:

East Tennessee Clean Fuels will host an AFV showcase featuring: a Tesla Model X, the University of Tennessee EcoCar (a Camaro that has been entirely rebuilt by UT students to run as an AFV!), a City of Knoxville propane lawn mower, and a Nissan LEAF.

Clean Fuels will give two presentations about alternative fuels during the day. The first is entitled “Driving Electric in Tennessee: What’s the Emissions Footprint?;” the second presentation will be “What Alternative Fuels & Vehicles are Available in East Tennessee?” The Clean fuel showcase will be located on the main lawn next behind the food/drink area.

Goodwill Pop-up Shop
GoodwillWhen you shop at Goodwill, not only are you keeping great clothes out of the landfill, but you are helping to fund job training programs in our community. Goodwill will be hosting a mini Popup Shop at Earthfest, featuring a hand-selected assortment of pre-loved clothes. Get a sneak peak at some of the items they’ll be bringing by liking Goodwill Industries-Knoxville on Facebook.


KUB Gift Card Incentive
We will provide energy efficiency and water conservation information. We will have onsite registration for customers to enroll in paperless billing, with a $5 gift card incentive and LED bulb (while supplies last). We are also working on another give away.
